Sampdoria rule out the possibility making an approach for AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano.

Sampdoria vice-president Edoardo Garrone has ruled out the possibility of his club making an approach for AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano.

Samp sold Cassano to Milan in January 2011 after the Blucerchiati president Riccardo Garrone fell out with the striker.

However, the Italy international has been linked with a move out of San Siro this summer, with both Samp and Genoa being mentioned as possible destinations for the 30-year-old.

Garrone, says that Cassano is not in their plans for the 2012-13 season but remains open to re-signing him in the future.

"Sampdoria fans always ask me in the street why Cassano isn't coming back, but I have to reply Cassano is happy where he is and we have to look ahead," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"Will he return next year? Anything can happen in life and I don't feel like ruling anything out.

"He loves this city and set down roots here, got married and had a son, so sooner or later I'm sure he will return regardless of whether it's with Sampdoria or not. However, Cassano is not part of our project, at least for now."

Sampdoria will play in Serie A this season after gaining promotion from the Italian second division last term.
