Arsene Wenger: 'Danny Welbeck not quite ready for Arsenal return'

Arsene Wenger says that Danny Welbeck is still a little way off making his first-team return after featuring for the club's Under-21s on Friday.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Danny Welbeck is still a little way off returning to the first team after featuring for the club's Under-21s.

England forward Welbeck made his return to match action earlier today after almost 10 months out with a knee injury, and Wenger believes that he still needs more time to build up his match sharpness.

"I believe that he needs to play two or three games before thinking about coming back into the first team," the Frenchman told reporters.

"He has not played for 10 months so we need to be patient with him. He has good basic fitness but after it is competitive decision-making and he needs to get used to that again."

Welbeck scored eight goals in his debut season last term after joining the Gunners from Premier League rivals Manchester United.
