No Emirates Cup next year

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis confirms that Arsenal will not be hosting the Emirates Cup next year.

Arsenal will not be hosting their traditional Emirates Cup pre-season tournament next summer because of the Olympic Games in London.

The Games are due to run between Friday, July 27 and Sunday, August 12, which leaves little time for the Gunners to stage their competition before the Premier League season begins.

"Although we are disappointed that we cannot stage the Emirates Cup in 2012, we completely understand and accept the situation," said Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

Thierry Henry's New York Red Bulls are the current holders of the Emirates Cup trophy.
