Mikel Arteta 'to keep Freddie Ljungberg at Arsenal'

Mikel Arteta reportedly intends to keep Freddie Ljungberg at Arsenal should he be confirmed as the next manager of the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta reportedly hopes to keep Freddie Ljungberg as part of his backroom staff at Arsenal.

Barring any late complications in negotiations, Arteta is expected to be confirmed as the long-term successor to Unai Emery within the next 24 hours.

That development has left some uncertainty over the future of Freddie Ljungberg, who was appointed as the interim boss after Emery's departure.

However, according to ESPN, the Swede is likely to remain at the North London outfit in some capacity.

The report suggests that Arteta wants Ljungberg to continue his contribution behind the scenes, having previously played a part in the progress of the Under-23s.

The 37-year-old is expected to be in the dugout when Arsenal take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
