Alan Shearer questions Theo Walcott's role at Arsenal

Alan Shearer questions Theo Walcott's role at Arsenal following his performance in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Alan Shearer has criticised Theo Walcott's role at Arsenal following his performance against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners' Premier League title hopes took a hit when they suffered a 3-2 defeat to the Red Devils at Old Trafford over the weekend.

During the game, Walcott, who has played as a winger and a striker during his Arsenal career, made just 17 touches before being hauled off the field and replaced with Olivier Giroud.

"What I think is unfortunate is we're still asking the same questions now as we were six or seven years ago about Theo Walcott," Shearer said on the BBC's Match of the Day.

"Is he a centre forward? Is he a winger? He's not even a regular in that Arsenal team, and we're still asking the same questions.

"His biggest asset is his pace so he shouldn't be going that way all the time towards the ball. He should be going the other way to ask questions of defenders."

The result means that third-placed Arsenal are now five points behind leaders Leicester City, while their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are three points above in second.
