Arsene Wenger thinks that the FA need to change their ruling after Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli escaped further punishment following a dangerous tackle on Alex Song.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged consistency and clarity from the Football Association following the governing body's failure to punish Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli for a crunching challenge on Alex Song.

The controversial Italian came under criticism for committing a dangerous tackle on the Arsenal midfielder during Man City's 1-0 defeat at the Emirates over the weekend.

Balotelli was later sent off towards the end of the clash but the 21-year-old managed to escape further action for the original foul.

"The FA should change this rule," the Express quotes Wenger as saying. "I think we should have an exceptional committee of ethics to get over this issue.

"The global situation does not make sense. For people who love football, it is difficult to understand."

The Italy international later apologised to City boss Roberto Mancini and to the club for his actions during Sunday's encounter.
