Roberto Mancini: 'The title race is finished'

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini claims that the Premier League title race is over, despite seeing his side cut Manchester United's lead to five points.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has claimed that the Premier League title race is over, despite seeing his side cut Manchester United's lead to five points.

The Blues ran out 4-0 winners over West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, while United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic.

"The title race is finished because United is a fantastic team and they have a fantastic spirit," Mancini told BBC Sport. "I think five points is too much.

"I think it is important for us to finish the season well. This is the best season for 50 years. I am proud of the players.

"It was important because I think West Brom are a good team with a good manager and for that reason it was difficult."

City next travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday.
