Arsene Wenger warns fans not to expect the same Thierry Henry that played for the club previously.

Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal fans not to expect the same Thierry Henry that played for the club previously.

Henry is paperwork away from joining Arsenal on a two-month loan from MLS side New York Red Bulls.

"Nobody expects him to be what he was 10 years ago — we just want him to help out," Wenger said. "I think it is credit to him to want to help a club that has given him so much. Therefore I feel there is no pressure to be the player he was before.

"You can never take away from people what they have done, that will remain forever.

"You do not find players of this quality who are available for two months."

The 34-year-old could make his first sppearance back in an Arsenal shirt when they take on Leeds in the FA Cup in January.

"The deal should happen but you have to respect the paperwork has to be done," Wenger added.

"We're doing it first of all because Gervinho and Chamakh go to the Africa Nations Cup and cover for two months is ideal."

Henry became the Gunners' all-time leading goalscorer in his previous stint with the club.
