Arsene Wenger: 'Emiliano Martinez will thrive at Wolverhampton Wanderers'

Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to 'save Wolves points' during his season-long loan at Molineux.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to prove himself a success during his season-long loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Competition from Petr Cech and David Ospina saw the 23-year-old join Wolves for the entire 2015-16 campaign, and Wenger believes that the Spaniard will "save them points".

"We wanted to give him competition because he was in the number-three position here," he told the club's official website.

"He's 23 years old now and I believe he's in the period of his life where he needs to play and show how good he is.

"I'm convinced that Wolves have made a very good loan signing there because he will save them points."

Martinez has made eight senior appearances for the Gunners since 2012.
