Arsene Wenger 'never tempted' by England job

Arsene Wenger says that he is "more interested" in club football than in coaching international teams.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he has "never" desired a managerial role at international level but believes that England deserve a worthy new boss.

The Gunners boss, who has been linked with the head coach role at France, has admitted that he prefers club management.

"England is a big football country with over 65 million people who have a big passion for the game," Wenger told reporters. "I love England and I want England to do well. Therefore I let the FA deal with that problem.

"I have never really been tempted by the national team job because for me it is a completely different job. I was always under contract, I respected contracts in my life.

"I am a little bit in a marathon job inside the club and the national team job is a sprinter's job. Maybe I have not enough quick fibres, but I am more interested in a day-to-day basis job."

Meanwhile, top candidate for the Three Lions' job Harry Redknapp has claimed that he would consider succeeding Fabio Capello.
