Harry Redknapp will wait on England job

Harry Redknapp says that he would consider taking the England job but thinks that it would be impossible to coach on a part-time basis.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that he would consider becoming England's new manager but believes that it would be too strained to take the role on a part-time basis.

The 64-year-old is the overwhelming favourite candidate to take charge of the English national team following Fabio Capello's surprise departure from the helm this week.

With less than four months to go until the European Championships, Redknapp could be approached by the Football Association to take the job on a part-time arrangement, enabling the coach to continue working with Tottenham.

While the former Portsmouth boss has claimed that he is "flattered" to be linked with the managerial job, Redknapp stated in a press conference that it would be difficult to juggle both roles.

"It's very difficult," said Redknapp. "It's hard enough managing a league club, let alone managing your country. It's two very different jobs and I think you've got to focus on one job.

"I can't take my eye off the ball at Tottenham at the moment. I owe it to them to keep completely focused on the job I'm doing here. It wouldn't be fair to anybody at this club if I suddenly started letting my thoughts wander elsewhere."

The Spurs coach, along with Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric, was cleared of all tax evasion charges on Wednesday.
