Arsene Wenger admits that he feared Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie would be sent off for his altercation with Newcastle United's Tim Krul.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he feared Robin Van Persie would be sent off during the club's 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Monday.

Van Persie, who scored Arsenal's first of the match, clashed with Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul at the final whistle, prompting a brawl amongst the players.

"I don't know if it is history from Holland or today's story. I've not spoken to Robin yet. I am happy that it stayed yellow and not red," Wenger told The Mirror.

The victory moved Arsenal onto 52 points in the Premier League table.
