Corinthians attacker Willian admits that he was "not happy" during his only year at Arsenal, where he managed just one goal in 37 appearances.

Former Arsenal attacker Willian has admitted that he was "not happy" during his ill-fated year in North London.

The 33-year-old penned a three-year deal at the Emirates Stadium following his departure from Chelsea in the summer of 2020, but only managed one goal in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Willian's Arsenal nightmare came to an end in the most recent transfer window as he secured a move back to Corinthians, and the Brazilian has now opened up on his struggles with the Gunners.

Speaking to TV Corinthians, Willian said: "I really thought a lot, together with my family and close people. Unfortunately, my time at Arsenal was not good, I wasn't happy at the club.

"I don't need to go into details, but I wasn't happy and I thought that returning to Brazil was the best option. I studied some other opportunities, but I wanted to return to Corinthians, to my home, to be close to my family. It's the club that projected me to the world, revealed me. The right time to come back was this."

Willian previously represented Corinthians between 2006 and 2007, registering two goals and two assists in 17 appearances before moving to Shakhtar Donetsk.
