The return of Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager could reportedly give Arsenal a boost in their pursuit of midfielder Martin Odegaard this summer.

The return of Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager could reportedly give Arsenal a boost in their pursuit of midfielder Martin Odegaard this summer.

Ancelotti left Everton after 18 months in charge to return to the Santiago Bernabeu for a second stint at the helm.

The Italian worked with the 22-year-old during his first spell with the Spanish giants in 2016, but told president Florentino Perez that he did not approve the purchase of the playmaker, suggesting that he only signed as part of a 'PR stunt'.

According to The Mirror, Ancelotti does not view the Norwegian as part of his long-term plans with Real Madrid and will allow him to move elsewhere this summer.

Arsenal are looking to bolster their squad this summer and manager Mikel Arteta would be interested in making Odegaard's loan deal permanent.

Odegaard made 14 Premier League appearances for the Gunners after joining on a temporary deal in January, recording just one goal and two assists.
