Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood believes that Robin van Persie will remain with the Gunners but suggests that Champions League qualification could play in part in the striker's decision.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has hinted that star striker Robin van Persie will opt to stay at the Emirates this summer.

The Dutchman has been embroiled in transfer speculation over the course of the season after the 28-year-old claimed that he would not discuss his future until the close of the campaign.

Despite the forward being linked to the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid, Hill-Wood believes that the PFA Player of the Year will continue his career with the Gunners.

"We haven't talked to Robin yet, but I spoke to Arsene [Wenger] recently," said Hill-Wood. "He is very confident he will stay and I very much hope he will. He has had a wonderful season with us."

When asked if Champions League qualification would be an instigator in Van Persie's decision, Hill-Wood replied: "I don't know."

The frontman, who will enter the last year of his contract this summer, has netted 30 Premier League goals this season.
