Arsenal 'set to miss out on Dayot Upamecano deal'

Bayern Munich and Barcelona are both ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano, according to a Bundesliga commentator.

Arsenal are unlikely to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano during this summer's transfer window, according to Bundesliga commentator Kevin Hatchard.

The Gunners continue to be linked with a move for the 21-year-old, who is expected to leave Leipzig ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, according to Hathcard, speaking to talkSPORT, Mikel Arteta's side are trailing both Bayern Munich and Barcelona when it comes to acquiring the France Under-21 international.

"The situation that Leipzig have with him is that his contract expires at the end of next season so they would like him to sign a new deal. They say that's not out of the question, realistically he is going to move at the end of the season," said the presenter.

"Bayern are very much interested, would love to sign him, Barcelona have been very strongly linked with him as well so it is going to be a proper scrap I think in the summer for his signature.

"I'm not sure of the Arsenal link, unless they can convince him there is a long-term project there, I'm not sure Arsenal have got much chance of signing him."

Upamecano, who has made 24 appearances at club level this season, is also allegedly attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
