Arsenal 'want to offload Mesut Ozil'

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil allegedly wants to see out the final year of his Gunners contract despite the club's intent to sell the 31-year-old.

Arsenal are reportedly keen to offload Mesut Ozil this summer, despite the German's intent to see out the final year of his contract.

The 31-year-old has endured a turbulent season in North London and was not involved in Arsenal's midweek defeat to Manchester City.

Ozil had enjoyed a consistent run in the first team under Mikel Arteta, having often been frozen out when Unai Emery was at the helm, but the Gunners are supposedly hoping to ship out the midfielder as they prepare for a financially-restricted summer overhaul.

According to ESPN, Arsenal are keen to cut Ozil's £350,000 weekly salary off of their wage bill amid financial woes arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the report also claims that Ozil is determined to stay and fight for his place in Arteta's starting lineup, despite only registering one goal and two assists in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The former Real Madrid man has amassed 44 goals from 254 appearances for the Gunners since arriving at the Emirates in 2013, and Fenerbahce are said to be keeping a close eye on Ozil's situation.
