Fenerbahce planning fundraising campaign to sign Arsenal's Mesut Ozil?

Fenerbahce plot a campaign to sign Arsenal's Mesut Ozil with their supporters raising money to contribute to his fee, according to a report.

Turkish side Fenerbahce are reportedly planning an unorthodox fan-based fundraising campaign as they look to secure a deal for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The German has not played a single minute of Premier League football since England's top flight returned earlier this month, being left out of the squad to face Manchester City and only making the substitutes bench for the loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Ozil only has a year left to run on his Emirates contract and the Gunners are supposedly keen to offload the midfielder, but the former Real Madrid man is intent on staying on in North London until 2021.

Nevertheless, Fenerbahce continue to be credited with an interest in Ozil, and according to Turkish outlet Fotospor, the Super Lig side are calling on their fans to assist in their efforts to sign the German playmaker.

The report claims that Fenerbahce are hoping to raise up to £3m from their supporters, with the club's directors contributing to the remaining costs.

Ozil has turned out 23 times across all competitions for Arsenal during the 2019-20 campaign, and the 31-year-old has registered one goal and three assists for the Gunners in that time.
