Pep Guardiola: 'Mikel Arteta not leaving Manchester City amid Arsenal links'

Pep Guardiola confirms that assistant coach Mikel Arteta will remain at Manchester City for the rest of this season amid rumours of the Spaniard becoming Arsenal boss.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that assistant coach Mikel Arteta will remain at Manchester City for the rest of this season amid rumours of the Spaniard becoming Arsenal's next manager.

Incumbent Gunners boss Unai Emery is under serious pressure following a run of just one win from Arsenal's last seven games.

Reports have suggested that Arteta, who spent five years at Arsenal, is being lined up as the Spaniard's replacement.

Reflecting on the rumours surrounding Arteta, Guardiola told The Times: "Of course [Arteta] will be a manager sooner or later, he's young, always he'll have that. We are going to finish the season and in the future I don't know what will happen.

"I'd like him to stay with us as much as possible. Manchester City has an incredible, valuable person to work in this club for the future, but personal life is personal life and professional desire is for professionals and everyone, not just me.

"We are more than satisfied to have him here but what happens at the end of the season, I don't know."

Emery is said to have been given a month following the international break to turn results around at the North London club.

Reports state that former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has also been contacted over potentially becoming the next Arsenal manager.
