Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Southampton defender Matt Targett during the summer transfer window.

Southampton defender Matt Targett has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool and Arsenal.

Targett has come through the academy setup at the South-coast outfit to make 63 appearances for the first team, which includes 36 starts in the Premier League.

However, the 23-year-old has never established himself as first choice at St Mary's, leaving him in line for a potential departure ahead of next season.

According to teamTALK, Liverpool and Arsenal are contemplating an approach as they look to strengthen at left-back.

Alberto Moreno and Stephan Lichtsteiner are leaving the Merseyside giants and Gunners respectively on free transfers at the end of June.

Both clubs - especially Arsenal - are keen to increase their number of homegrown players before the beginning of the new campaign.
