Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho "surprised" by Mesut Ozil's Arsenal move

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that he is "surprised" that Real Madrid sold Mesut Ozil to Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his shock at Real Madrid's decision to allow midfielder Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

The Gunners smashed their club transfer record to sign the German international for a reported £42.5m fee, prompting Ozil's former teammates, including Cristiano Ronaldo, to admit their disappointment at the 24-year-old's departure.

"I'm surprised but that's football, thats the market," Mourinho said in a press conference. "Real Madrid have a lot of great players, so because they lost Ozil, they don't become a weaker team.

"Mesut left a big club, but comes to the biggest league in the world and comes to a club with big ambitions, so I think if Mesut did it, he was happy to do it."

Meanwhile, summer signing Samuel Eto'o will make his debut for Chelsea against Everton tomorrow.
