Real Madrid are allegedly prepared to demand in the region of £35m for Marco Asensio, who has just a year remaining on his contract.

Real Madrid have reportedly set the asking price of midfielder Marco Asensio at £35m.

Despite his early promise at the Santiago Bernabeu, the playmaker has gradually been demoted to a squad member, rather than remaining as an automatic first choice.

Last season, just 21 of his 39 appearances in La Liga and the Champions League came from the starting lineup, an indication that Carlo Ancelotti prefers other players.

With just a year remaining on his contract, speculation persists that the Spain international could be allowed to leave Los Blancos for the right price.

According to AS, interested clubs have been informed that they will have to shell out £35m to sign Asensio this summer.

The report claims that the 26-year-old features high up on the shortlist of Jurgen Klopp, despite Liverpool having already signed Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.

As a result of that double signing, it is added that a switch to Anfield is unlikely, Asensio instead wanting to earn regular football from the starting lineup.

AC Milan are said to be regarded as a more likely destination, providing that they are able to finance a proposal of this magnitude.

The Serie A champions are currently still in the process of establishing their transfer budget for the summer, while it is claimed that Asensio would have to accept personal terms lower than what is being offered by Premier League teams.

While Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the past, the Gunners have instead agreed to sign Fabio Vieira from Porto.

Earlier this month, Asensio claimed that he had "three possibilities' if he made the decision to depart his boyhood team for pastures new.

As quoted by Marca, Asensio said: "I am focused on the national team. When this concentration is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. Renew or leave Real Madrid? I think there are three possibilities, there is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year.

"My future does not have to depend on whether or not I will have a place in the next World Cup. Rumours are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. Many players come out every summer and it's something we have to live with."

In total, Asensio has contributed 49 goals and 24 assists from his 235 appearances for Real.
