Thomas Vermaelen suggests that he could leave Arsenal in the January transfer window in a bid to find regular first-team football.

Thomas Vermaelen has suggested that he could leave Arsenal in the January transfer window due to a lack of playing time at the Emirates Stadium.

The defender has fallen down the pecking order at the North London outfit due to the regular pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the back.

Despite claiming that he is "not worried" about his current situation at Arsenal, the 27-year-old has revealed that he will hold further talks with manager Arsene Wenger in January.

"I'll have to think about that when it's necessary," The Express quotes Vermaelen as saying. "January is still a few months ahead.

"I have spoken to the manager but it will remain private between us. Things can happen in a split second and change my situation.

"That can happen tomorrow or next weekend. In that case, we will speak differently in January. I have to be ready for that."

The Belgium international has made just two appearances for the Gunners this season.
