Arsenal defender William Saliba is edging closer to a season-long loan to Marseille, according to a report.

Arsenal defender William Saliba is reportedly set to join Marseille on a season-long loan deal.

The former Saint-Etienne man is still waiting for his senior debut for Arsenal, and he spent the 2019-20 season back on loan at Les Verts before linking up with Mikel Arteta's squad.

However, Saliba was not handed a single opportunity in the first team and returned to Ligue 1 with Nice for the second half 2020-21 season, where he started 20 league matches and formed an impressive partnership with Jean-Clair Todibo.

According to The Athletic, Saliba is now set to complete a third loan move away from the club to Marseille, whom he has personally picked despite interest from clubs in other top five leagues.

Even though the centre-back has failed to break into the first team at the Emirates, the report adds that Arsenal still view him as an important player for the future, despite links with Brighton & Hove Albion's Ben White.

Saliba - who has withdrawn from France's Olympic squad - has only made eight appearances for the Gunners' Under-23s so far.
