Jack Wilshere reveals that he has yet to begin talks on a new contract with Arsenal, despite being free to speak to foreign clubs from the start of next month.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he is still "in the same position" as last month with regards to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger planned to begin talks with the soon-to-be out-of-contract England international at some point in December, as he is free to discuss a move with foreign teams from next month.

Wilshere is still in the dark over his future beyond the end of the campaign, however, and says that all he can do for the time being is continue to prove his fitness.

"There's no update, we're in the same position we were in two weeks ago," he told reporters. "There's not really a date in the diary. I've only read what [Wenger] has said in the media. At the moment, I'm concentrating on staying fit and staying in the team.

"That will look after itself and when it's the right time, I'm sure the boss will pull me so we can have a chat. I'm happy. I said before that I was happy, I was just waiting for my opportunity. It came and I think I took it well."

Wilshere was handed his first Premier League start for Arsenal in 577 days when lining up against West Ham United on Wednesday evening.
