Paul Lambert praises "outstanding" Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert hails his players following their 3-1 victory at Liverpool.

Paul Lambert has described the performance that his Aston Villa side put in at Liverpool this afternoon as "outstanding".

A brace from Christian Benteke and a strike from Andreas Weimann gave visiting Villa all three points at Anfield, despite Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard scoring a late header for the home side.

Having seen his side collect all three points, Lambert then turned his attention to moving away from the relegation zone over the Christmas period.

"I thought we were outstanding. I thought we looked a threat with Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann and thought we deserved the win," he told BBC Sport.

"We have been on a terrific run and collectively we have been brilliant. Hopefully, we can continue to climb the table."

The win has lifted Villa up to 14th in the Premier League table.
