Paul Lambert could reportedly ditch Norwich City for Aston Villa in the next 24 hours, despite the Canaries refusing the manager's resignation.

Aston Villa are reportedly expected to complete the appointment of Norwich City boss Paul Lambert in the next 24 hours.

The 42-year-old is believed to be closing in on a move to Villa Park, despite having his resignation request rejected by the former Championship club.

Following a reported disagreement with the Canaries' hierarchy, it is understood that there is no way back for the Scotsman, who could put pen to paper on a Villa contract today, according to Sky Sports News.

Reports have claimed that if Lambert does complete a move, the Midlands club will hold a press conference next Wednesday or Thursday.
