Ashley Young looks to European football

Ashley Young states that he wants the chance to play in Europe on a regular basis.

Ashley Young has increased speculation of a move away from Aston Villa by stating that he wants to play football "at the highest level".

The 25-year-old, who has received interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, revealed that he will be speaking to club chairman Randy Lerner about his future at Villa Park this week.

Young, who joined the club in 2007, has a year to run on his present deal but is expected to be open to advances from clubs with European standing.

"I've always had the belief I can play at the highest levels," he said. "I've always had self-belief, I've always had the confidence I can play at the highest level.

"As a kid you always want to play in the best competitions. As a kid I wanted to play in the Champions League, and hopefully one day I will.

"People say the prime of your career is aged 25, 26, 27. I'm 26 next month so hopefully I'm coming into my prime."

The winger scored the equaliser in England's 2-2 Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland on Saturday after being brought off the bench in the second half.
