Aston Villa are reportedly looking at deals for Wigan Athletic's Nick Powell and West Ham United's Jordan Hugill.
Manager Steve Bruce was recently given the full backing of new majority owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens and can officially start making moves this summer after the club's transfer embargo was lifted.
Hugill, who joined West Ham in January from Preston North End, has found his opportunities limited at the London Stadium and according to BBC Sport, Villa are hoping to take advantage of that situation.
Powell enjoyed a good season in League One after being relegated with Wigan, scoring 15 goals in 39 appearances and being nominated for the division's player of the year award.
Meanwhile, Ben Woodburn - another alleged target of Bruce - is reportedly set to join Sheffield United on loan.
