Xavi has revealed that the Spanish squad are determined to win Euro 2012 this summer for Carles Puyol and David Villa.
The Barcelona duo would have been included in the 23-man party at the tournament but for injury.
With that in mind, Xavi is hoping that the defending champions can bring some happiness to the absent pair.
"Puyi is a leader, a winner. Villa is our historic goalscorer. But they are not here. We'll try and give them some joy," Xavi told TVE.
"They are two champions, but injuries are part of football too. Their replacements are giving their all for the team."
If Spain avoid defeat against Croatia tomorrow evening they will qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
