Luis Enrique still hopeful of Xavi stay

Luis Enrique admits that he is still hopeful of keeping legendary midfielder Xavi beyond this season.

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is still hopeful that legendary midfielder Xavi will snub his summer move to Qatar and stay at Camp Nou.

The veteran 35-year-old, who played 90 minutes in last night's 4-0 win over Almeria, is strongly expected to join Al Sadd during the off-season, ending a 17-year senior career in Catalunya.

Speculation is rife that Barca have made one last-ditch attempt in order to keep him, a move that has the backing of Enrique.

"He has the affection of all the Catalans and any football lover," he told reporters.

"He knows it and feels it. I would like him to continue helping us, but I understand he wants other experiences. Whatever he chooses will be good for Barca."

Xavi has won seven La Ligas and three Champions League titles during his trophy-laden spell with the Spanish giants.
