Barcelona reportedly agree a new three-year contract with Xavi, keeping the manager at Camp Nou until 2026.

Xavi has reportedly agreed to extend his contract at Barcelona until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Given his status at Camp Nou through his playing days, the former midfielder was always expected to become a manager of the Catalan giants at some stage in his career.

That opportunity arguably came sooner than expected, with Xavi spending two-and-a-half years at Qatari side Al Sadd before taking over at the La Liga side.

Since then, the 43-year-old has played an integral part in guiding Barcelona back to the top of Spanish football at a time when they have continued to suffer financial problems.

As well as the Supercopa de Espana, Barcelona won last season's La Liga title, prevailing by 10 points and conceding just 20 goals along the way.

The new goal for Xavi and his squad is to make an impression in the Champions League after their early exit in 2022-23, and it appears that club officials want further stability ahead of their attempt.

According to Marca, Xavi has committed his future to Barcelona until the summer of 2026.

That is an increase of two years with the legendary figure currently having less than 12 months remaining on his existing terms.

President Joan Laporta is said to have sat down with Xavi to successfully negotiate terms with the deal expected to be made official in due course.

Xavi has taken charge of a total of 94 matches in all competitions, recording 58 victories, 17 draws and 19 defeats since November 2021.

Three of those wins have come during the early weeks of the 2023-24 campaign, Barcelona defeating Cadiz, Villarreal and Osasuna in succession.

However, failure to defeat Getafe on away territory on the opening day of the season has left Barcelona two points adrift of leaders and fierce rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona are next in action when they play host to Real Betis at their temporary home Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on September 16.
