The German took over at Oakwell in the summer of 2018.

Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel has left the club after a 10-game winless run.

The 45-year-old German departs with the Tykes in the bottom two of the Sky Bet Championship, having collected six points from 11 games.

Adam Murray, the club’s under-18 head coach, has been appointed caretaker manager.

A brief statement on the club’s website read: “Barnsley Football Club confirms that it has separated from Daniel Stendel with immediate effect. Adam Murray has been appointed caretaker manager.”

Stendel was handed the reins at Oakwell in June 2018, signing a two-year contract to replace Jose Morais, who left following relegation from the Championship.

Former Hannover coach Stendel guided the south Yorkshire club straight back to the second tier with a second-place finish in League One, but it has been a different story this term.

They have not won since the opening day of the season against Fulham, were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Carlisle and have scored only eight goals – the lowest return in the division.

Stendel’s final game in charge was Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Preston. The Tykes face Swansea on October 19.
