Philipp Wollscheid doesn't want loan move after Southampton link

German international Philipp Wollscheid has rejected the thought of moving to another club on loan, with a permanent switch a more likely option.

Philipp Wollscheid has revealed that he doesn't want to be loaned out this season after being linked with loan moves to Southampton and Hamburg.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender has signalled in an interview with the Rheinische Post that he would prefer a permanent move to play regular football rather than being loaned.

"To move away on loan would be a weird situation, I do not know that kind of move yet. It's not even a situation I am out for," the 25-year-old said.

"Should I agree a transfer I do not know if this would be a step back for me, if it's better to sit on the bench of a UEFA Champions League side or play regular matches elsewhere,"

Leverkusen have recently acquired the signature of Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, which has put Wollscheid's future with the club into doubt.
