Robert Lewandowski: 'Bayern Munich did not support me during goal drought'

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski says that he "felt no protection from the club" during a goalless spell in the Bundesliga last season.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has said that he "felt no protection from the club" during a goalless spell in the Bundesliga last season.

The 30-year-old has scored 155 goals in 179 games for the club and found the net 29 times in 30 league appearances in their title win last season.

However, the Poland international has not escaped criticism from the German press, who blasted his poor performances in a number of important games.

"In April and May everyone criticised me. And I felt no protection from the club, I felt alone," he told German outlet Sport Bild.

"I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was saying: 'Open fire against Lewandowski!'

"I did not see anyone who supported me at the time. Neither of the club bosses defended me. I did not feel good in Munich at that moment. Being at Bayern did not fit for me at that time."

The forward has been linked with a move to Real Madrid following the departure of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus earlier this summer.
