The Bavarian giants could have gone ahead as early as the third minute when Franck Ribery shot just wide from outside the box.

Seven minutes later Jakub Blaszczykowski forced Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer into making a good save.

It became an end-to-end affair at the Allianz Arena, with Toni Kroos shooting wide from distance before Sven Bender tried his luck for the visitors.

Then on the stroke of half-time Mario Gotze sent Marco Reus through, but the final shot was turned away by Neuer.

The two sides continued to test each other in the second half, as Kroos shot high in the 46th minute and then Mats Hummels, Reus and Gotze tested Neuer.

Bayern eventually broke the deadlock and the goal came in the 67th minute, as Kroos turned his marker and fired in from the edge of the Dortmund penalty area.

The Bundesliga leaders' advantage lasted just seven minutes as Dortmund equalised through Gotze, who shot home from inside the area after a corner fell to him.

Muller had a goal disallowed in the 80th minute as he was adjudged to be in an offside position.

Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller saved a point for Dortmund in Munich in the final minutes, as he made three important saves to deny Kroos, Muller and Javi Martinez.

The result means that Bayern's lead at the top of the Bundesliga table is now eight points.
