The German champions opened the scoring in the third minute when Robert Lewandowski fired in from close range after being released by Mario Gotze.

Two minutes later Greuther equalised when Zoltan Stieber stabbed home Edgar Prib's pass from the centre of the box.

Then on 14 minutes the visitors conceded a penalty after Bernd Nehrig brought down Jakub Blaszczykowski inside his own 18-yard box.

Lewandowski made no mistake from 12 yards to put Dortmund 2-1 up at Signal-Iduna Park.

It became 3-1 to Jurgen Klopp's side three minutes before the half-time interval, this time Gotze latching on to a Blaszczykowski pass to shoot home from close range.

Dortmund continued to dominate proceedings in the second half, with Blaszczykowski and Lewandowski testing Max Grun.

Ilkay Gundogan came close with a long-range effort just after the hour mark and so did Sven Bender on 73 minutes.
