Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has confirmed that he still remains interested in taking Javi Martinez to the Allianz Arena.
The Spanish international moved to end speculation regarding his future last week by insisting that he is happy with his current club Athletic Bilbao.
Heynckes has accepted Martinez's point of view and also has reservations over the asking price for the holding midfielder. Nevertheless, the boss has admitted that he has not given up hope of acquiring the 23-year-old.
"You need to read these statements [from Martinez] right. The transfer fee is exorbitant, this is the main problem," Heynckes told Bild. "Still, it's a fact he is a part of our plans.
"Our club, Bayern Munich, will again have to juggle many balls in the new season. Therefore we need to rely on many good players.
"We need to have good alternatives, as we did not have these options in terms of players last season."
Martinez's contract with Bilbao does not expire until the summer of 2016.
