Birmingham City could face another points deduction after they were charged for breaching the EFL's financial regulations, according to a report.

Birmingham City could be set to face another points deduction after they were charged for breaching the EFL's financial regulations.

The Midlands side were deducted nine points last season after they became the first club to be punished for failing to comply with the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules.

When that deduction was imposed last March, the EFL issued a business plan that Birmingham had to stick to in order to show that they were trying to keep their spending within acceptable limits.

The Telegraph reports that Pep Clotet's side have broken the restrictions outlined in the plan and if they are found guilty by a disciplinary commission, they could be set for another, potentially more severe deduction.

In an official statement, issued on Monday night, the club said: "The club confirms that it has been charged with a breach of EFL Regulations in relation to a business plan imposed upon us in the 2018-19 season. The club denies the charge and we await the outcome of ongoing disciplinary proceedings. We shall be making no further comment at this time."

Birmingham are currently 18th in the Championship following their New Year's Day defeat against Wigan Athletic, which was their fifth loss in their last six games.
