Birmingham City agree £3.5m fee with Barnsley for Marc Roberts?

A report claims that Birmingham City are on the brink of completing a £3.5m move for Barnsley defender Marc Roberts, who had earlier been linked with a switch to Burnley.

Barnsley defender Marc Roberts is on his way to Championship rivals Birmingham City in a deal worth £3.5m, according to a report.

The 26-year-old is said to have already passed a medical at St Andrew's and will formally complete his switch at some stage over the weekend.

Sky Sports News reports that Brum won the race to sign the former Halifax Town man with their healthy offer, seeing off rumoured competition from Premier League outfit Burnley.

Birmingham have been in the market for a new centre-back and are understood to have shown an interest in John Terry, but the free agent looks likely to be on his way to neighbours Aston Villa.

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom revealed earlier this week that he expected to lose Roberts, who was handed the captaincy for the second half of last season after Conor Hourihane left for Villa.
