Blackpool boss Ian Holloway admits his side deserved to lose against Everton in the FA Cup but bemoans their opener, which came after just 49 seconds.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has admitted that his side deserved to lose their FA Cup fifth-round match against Everton this afternoon.

The Tangerines went down 2-0 to their Premier League opponents, and Holloway pointed to Everton's opener after just 49 seconds as a major point in the game.

"I can't believe the start we had, such a fundamental thing to let their centre-half have it and think you're solid, we drew our full-back out and it was played in behind him, such a schoolboy thing but such is life," said the former Plymouth boss.

"I wanted to give a good show of what we have been doing and see where these lads are mentally and physically but we have just been beaten by a better team today.

"But we showed good character and came back into it later in the game, some teams might have capitulated but we hauled ourselves back in it, but they have a good team here and they were a team that is in form and looked good.

Everton currently sit tenth in the Premier League table, while Blackpool occupy fifth place in the Championship.
