The home side took the lead in the 13th minute after Inter had began to dominate possession, with Panagiotis Kone firing between Samir Handanovic's legs after Alessandro Diamanti had driven forward on the counter.
Rodrigo Palacio hit straight at Gianluca Curci from 12 yards out before Jonathan's chipped cross presented him with a glorious chance to equalise. However, the Argentine forward missed the target from eight yards out.
Saphir Taider carved out a good chance for Alvaro Pereira before the break, but the Uruguayan could not turn his cut-back into the net.
Walter Mazzarri's side deservedly got back on level terms in the 54th minute, although when the goal came, it did so with a slice of fortune, as Jonathan's low effort took a deflection before trickling over the line.
The Nerazzurri saw much more of the ball than their opponents, but struggled to convert their pressure into clear-cut chances. Still, they nearly snatched three points at the death when Juan Jesus rattled the crossbar.
