Clint Dempsey takes his goal tally to 21 as he helps Fulham take maximum points from their trip to Bolton Wanderers.

Clint Dempsey scored twice to help Fulham take maximum points from their trip to Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

The American thought he had opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when he turned in Damien Duff's cross from close range. However, the linesman raised his flag for offside.

Just seven minutes later, Dempsey scored a legitimate goal. Having spotted a gap in the top left-hand corner of the goal, the 29-year-old fired in an effort from 30 yards out despite the best efforts of Adam Bogdan in goal.

With the half drawing to a close, Dempsey added his second of the afternoon when he headed in Duff's cross from close range.

Duff had chances to extend Fulham's lead shortly after the restart, but both of his efforts were collected by Bogdan.

As Bolton searched a route back into the match, Fulham made sure of the points on the break 10 minutes from time. John Arne Riise crossed from the left for Mahamadou Diarra, who slotted in his first goal for the Whites.

Despite the win, Fulham remain 10th in the Premier League table.
