Liam Feeney, Zach Clough give Bolton Wanderers first win of season

Bolton Wanderers hold off a late onslaught by Wolverhampton Wanderers to win 2-1 and record their first Championship victory of the season this afternoon.

Bolton Wanderers held off a late onslaught from Wolverhampton Wanderers to win 2-1 and record their first victory of the season this afternoon.

The hosts started the match as the stronger of the two sides and missed a number of early chances. Firstly, Zach Clough was unable to connect with a Wellington Silva free kick, before Liam Feeney's close-range effort was parried by Wolves keeper Emiliano Martinez with Liam Feeney finding the side-netting with the rebound.

Bolton continued to dominate the game, and broke the deadlock on 17 minutes through Feeney, who finished with a neat volley after picking up a flick on by Gary Madine in the box.

Wolves missed a host of chances to equalise before half time, as Ethan Ebanks-Landell forced a good save from Bolton keeper Ben Amos, before Benik Afobe, Jed Wallace and James Henry all missed the target with good opportunities.

The hosts made Wolves pay for their profligacy in added time, as Silva won a penalty after a foul by Ebanks-Landell. Striker Clough took the spot kick and finished past Martinez in the visitors' goal.

After the break Wolves missed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back as Afobe found Adam Le Fondre completely unmarked, but the former Bolton striker fired wide.

The visitors did manage to find a goal on 68 minutes when Prince Gouano brought down Le Fondre in the box, and Afobe scored the penalty that followed to halve Wolves' deficit.

The game opened up after the penalty as both sides missed good opportunities to find the net - first through David Edwards, who failed to capitalise on a mistake by Amos, before a Madine shot from eight yards was blazed over the bar.

Bolton striker Emile Heskey came close to scoring a third for the hosts on 85 minutes, but his effort was well saved by Martinez.

Wolves missed three good chances to equalise before the final whistle - first as Le Fondre fired wide from inside the Bolton penalty area, before Conor Coady headed over from a corner, and Amos produced a fine save to keep Le Fondre out again.
