Bournemouth forward Jermain Defoe suggests that he has ambitions to move into the top five of the all-time Premier League goalscorers list before the end of his career.

Bournemouth forward Jermain Defoe has suggested that he has ambitions to move into the top five of the all-time Premier League goalscorers list.

Defoe turns 36 years of age in October, but the former England international remains a strong option for Cherries boss Eddie Howe at the Vitality Stadium.

The veteran requires another 13 goals to tie with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry on 175 strikes in the Premier League, and the frontman has indicated that is his own 'personal ambition'.

Defoe told the Bournemouth Echo: "On a personal note it's special because, as a kid, I was obsessed with goals. I always thought if I could score one goal in the Premier League it would be special.

"When I finish playing, if I could think 'right, you're in the top-five all-time goalscorers in the Premier League' it would be one of those moments where you would probably have to pinch yourself."

Defoe has also represented West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Sunderland in the Premier League.
