Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet admits that he wasn't surprised by his side's Championship defeat to Barnsley.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet has revealed that he wasn't "surprised" by his side's defeat to Barnsley.

Jason Scotland and Chris Dagnall secured the win for David Flitcroft's side despite a Leonardo Ulloa strike.

Keeper Luke Steele saved a late penalty from Ulloa to earn the Tykes three vital points.

"I was convinced we had a great chance and I believe we lost the chance of getting three points," Poyet told reporters.

"We knew we would have to fight and compete and I got the feeling that we gave the game away with the goals that we gave away, but that is how it has been for a while so I am not surprised."

Brighton are now seventh in the Championship following their defeat at Oakwell.
