Danny Ings hails Burnley defence after Stoke City win

Two-goal hero Danny Ings hails Burnley's defensive unit for keeping Stoke City at bay for over an hour in their 2-1 win at the Britannia Stadium.

Burnley striker Danny Ings has paid tribute to his defensive teammates for their role in Saturday's 2-1 win over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

Ings netted twice in the early stages to inspire the Clarets to what was just their second victory in the Premier League this season.

It was a day when Burnley's defensive mettle was tested, however, as Sean Dyche's side were forced to protect a one-goal lead for an hour after Jonathan Walters halved the deficit on 32 minutes.

"It was a brilliant result. We started the game extremely well and we kept that going," Ings, who now has three league goals this season, told the club's official website.

"I know we defended for a lot of the game but I thought the lads were fantastic in their mentality and the way they went about it.

"To be honest the goals were quite easy, it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time which I've tried to do all season – luckily today two fell for me nicely."

Dyche's men remain in the relegation zone, but only on goal difference behind 17th-placed Leicester City.
