Malky Mackay attempts to distance himself from Everton rumours by insisting that he remains focused on managing Cardiff City.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has refuted suggestions that he could become Everton's new boss.

The 41-year-old has been linked with the managerial post at Goodison Park left vacant by David Moyes, who will embark on a new career at Manchester United from July.

Despite the speculation, Mackay has insisted that he is purely focused on preparing his Cardiff side for their Premier League campaign next season.

"It's really just paper talk," Mackay told talkSPORT. "I'm focused on what I'm doing at Cardiff. We've got a really busy time at the moment in terms of bringing players in, and the next couple of months are crucial for our team in terms of surviving in the Premier League.

"We need to go up there and give ourselves the best chance. For the last three weeks I've been out every day looking at different players. I'm just getting on with my job right now."

Meanwhile, Phil Neville, who has ended his playing career with the Toffees, has hinted that he would accept taking the managerial role at Everton.
