David Unsworth has claimed that Alan Stubbs would be a "fantastic appointment" to fill the vacant manager's position at Everton.
The Toffees are currently searching for a new boss, following David Moyes's decision to join Manchester United.
"I know there have been a lot of names banded about like Roberto Martinez, Neil Lennon and Malky Mackay, but it wouldn't surprise me if some Bill Kenwright employed an internal candidate," Unsworth told talkSPORT.
"David Moyes has put some great backroom staff in place, people like Steve Round, Alan Irvine, Duncan Ferguson, Alan Stubbs and David Weir.
"It wouldn't surprise me if he kept it in the boot room, like Liverpool in the 70s and 80s. Alan Stubbs would be a fantastic appointment."
Stubbs, who featured alongside Unsworth during his playing career at Goodison Park, has been on the Toffees' coaching staff since September 2008.
