Scott Young: 'Cardiff City showed great resilience'

Scott Young insists that Cardiff City will continue to plug away for the remainder of the Championship campaign in order to "finish as high up the table" as possible.

Cardiff City assistant manager Scott Young is delighted to have seen his side continue their recent resurgence with a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds have endued a torrid time this season following their relegation from the Premier League, but seven points from the last nine on offer has helped the Welsh outfit climb up the table over the past week.

Eoin Doyle's first goal for the club and a coolly-dispatched penalty from Peter Whittingham proved the difference against Birmingham at the Cardiff City Stadium, as Russell Slade's charges ended their barren home run.

"It's pleasing to get the clean sheet," Young told reporters. "It's a big one for us – and pleasing to get three points. There were a few times at home after the New Year that we were in a good position and haven't got over the line so it's pleasing today.

"We said at half time that a clean sheet would win us the game. We felt that we would create one or two big chances in the second half so we defended at our end.

"We need to keep going, keep pushing on and finish as high up the table as we can. We showed a great resilience in the team today to defend and do things right. It was key that we made use of the ball when we had it and in the second half we created quite a few chances."

Cardiff find themselves sitting in 14th place in the Championship table with seven games of the campaign remaining.
